Registering as a Texas Voter: Helpful Tips
Qualifications:
Must register in the county in which you reside
Must be a citizen of the U.S.
Must be 17 years and 10 months old at time of registration and 18 by Election Day (November 4, 2008)
Felony sentence must be fully carried out (including probation or parole)
Must not be declared mentally incompetent by a court of law
Where to Register:
County Voter Registrars Office
Department of Motor Vehicles
Secretary of States office, public library, post office
If Homeless:
Residence Address: can be Congress Street Bridge or corner of 34th & Guadalupe
Mailing Address: Must be an address where a voter registration card can be delivered (shelter, PO Box, etc.)
Dates to Remember:
Monday, October 6, 2008: Voter Registration Deadline
Monday, October 20, 2008: First Day of Early Voting
Friday, October 31, 2008: Last Day of Early Voting
Tuesday, November 04, 2008: General Election Date
Early Voting Information:
In Person: Monday, October 20 through October 31
May be in person (call county elections office to find out nearest location)
Curbside Voting: if have difficulty walking or standing for long periods of time (available during early voting and on election day); call ahead to make this request
You May Apply for a Ballot by Mail if:
You will be out of your county on Election Day and during the Early Voting Period
You are sick or disabled
You are 65 years or older on Election day; or
You are confined in jail
