Registering as a Texas Voter: Helpful Tips

Qualifications:
• Must register in the county in which you reside
• Must be a citizen of the U.S.
• Must be 17 years and 10 months old at time of registration and 18 by Election Day (November 4, 2008)
• Felony sentence must be fully carried out (including probation or parole)
• Must not be declared mentally incompetent by a court of law

Where to Register:
• County Voter Registrar’s Office
• Department of Motor Vehicles
• Secretary of State’s office, public library, post office

If Homeless:
• Residence Address: can be Congress Street Bridge or corner of 34th & Guadalupe
• Mailing Address: Must be an address where a voter registration card can be delivered (shelter, PO Box, etc.)

Dates to Remember:
• Monday, October 6, 2008: Voter Registration Deadline
• Monday, October 20, 2008: First Day of Early Voting
• Friday, October 31, 2008: Last Day of Early Voting
• Tuesday, November 04, 2008: General Election Date

Early Voting Information:
• In Person: Monday, October 20 through October 31
• May be in person (call county elections office to find out nearest location)
• Curbside Voting: if have difficulty walking or standing for long periods of time (available during early voting and on election day); call ahead to make this request

You May Apply for a Ballot by Mail if:
• You will be out of your county on Election Day and during the Early Voting Period
• You are sick or disabled
• You are 65 years or older on Election day; or
• You are confined in jail
