Bluebonnet School of Cedar Park was founded in 2002. It is owned by Nancy and Charles Chick and Athena Hartley has been the school’s director since 2002. Bluebonnet School serves children from eight weeks to twelve years with a current enrollment of 270 children. Bluebonnet School has been accredited by NAEYC since 2004 and is currently in the self study process for NAC accreditation. “A Lifetime of Learning Begins with the First Moment of Wonder” is one of the guiding concepts at Bluebonnet School and they take children’s play seriously. The program is based on an understanding of brain development by all staff with opportunities for early literacy, art, math, Spanish in the classroom, classical music playing all day and physical education. Superior customer service is a key philosophy at Bluebonnet School. They view children and their parents as their customers and are constantly striving to build that relationship. Bluebonnet School hosts an Open House event every fall to introduce parents to the school and the year ahead. The school offers Parent Involvement evenings throughout the year that includes various topics such as toilet learning, Choices You Can Live With, Love and Logic and American Sign Language. Every fall, Bluebonnet has a fall harvest party that parents plan and carry out. Diversity and community involvement are also key components of the Bluebonnet School. Diversity is promoted through parents sharing their cultures with children, multicultural images in the classrooms, photos of each child’s own family, foods from other cultures and music and books from a mix of cultures and ethnic groups. Through the “Bluebonnet Children Care and Share Program”, children and their families donate outgrown shoes and new shoes purchased through donations to needy children in Tanzania. They also donate non-perishable items to the Capital Area Food Bank, which have totaled over 200 pounds of food over the last two years. Bluebonnet School also contributed to the $1442.00 to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund for the hurricane disasters, gifts and supplies to at-risk children in their county, and get well cards to children who have serious illnesses through the Any Baby Can organization.
