Crime Prevention Month!

The 2006 TECEC Public Awareness Campaign theme for October is “Crime Prevention Month” and we encourage you to partner with law enforcement officials in your community in order to raise awareness of the role that high quality early childhood education plays in reducing crime. Thanks to the national organization, Fight Crime: Invest in Kids, there are more than 3,000 police chiefs, sheriffs, prosecutors, other law enforcement leaders, and violence survivors across the country who believe that the best way to prevent crime is by giving kids the right start in life, and this includes access to high quality pre-k. We encourage you to form as many partnerships as possible and we encourage you to bring these leaders with you when you visit your legislators between now and the 80th Legislative Session, set to begin January 9, 2007.

Executive Summary of the Bush School Report
The cost-benefit analysis conducted by the Bush School of Government and Public Service at Texas A&M University found that every $1.00 invested in high quality pre-k programs returns at least $3.50. In addition, the study found communities investing in high quality pre-k would see a reduction in costs associated with juvenile and adult crimes.
