April-Pre-k and School Finance!

"Access to high quality preschool programs including child care, Head Start and pre-kindergarten could be the single most effective mechanism to improve the outcomes of our state's public schools."

--Dr. Alvin Tarlov, retired executive director of the Texas Program for Society and Health at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University

Throughout the month of April, communities across the state are raising awareness about children through events such as the Week of the Young Child , Child Abuse Prevention Month , Autism Awareness Month, and more. In addition, the Texas Legislature will be convening on Monday, April 17th for a special session on public school finance, which offers advocates yet another opportunity to raise awareness about the critical importance of the first five years of a child's life.
